Bioluminescent Creatures: Meet Nature’s Living Lanterns”

Fireflies, Bioluminescence, and Jellyfish: Meet Nature’s Living Lanterns

Fireflies, are super pretty, making not only for good photos but also for the environment. Just imagine a cozy night by the campfire eating smores with nature all around you (you might get eaten by a bear but whatever)
This post is dedicated to things that glow, literally, not metaphorically and I read about something that will knock you're socks off. It's the substances that makes these thing glow, I've mentioned it in my 'Weird Sea Creatures' post. It's... (drumroll please) bioluminescence. It's a chemical reaction emitted by organisms and can produce their own light, pretty cool huh? 76 percentage of sea animals can produce their own light which kinda makes sense they live deep underwater and need light to survive. Have you ever seen those cool beaches where people throw rocks in the sea (ouch, that's offensive) and it starts to glow like neon dark blue. That's and example of bioluminescence, there are tons of animals which are exposed to this light which according to my research are mostly sea creature which cant process red, green or yellow and that why they usually glow in a blue-green light because it's more visible in the ocean. There are a few animals that live on land that show such symptoms like fireflies and glow-worms.

 Pros and Cons of Bioluminescence

These glow-in-the-dark creatures use their water-bending powers not just for views but to fend out predators and to lure prey towards them, which sounds very ominous and eerie at the same time. There is this thing called counterillumination where they use their powers to basically turn themselves invisible meaning large predators like sharks usually hunt from below so the sunlight casts a shadow on the creatures and make them invisible. Sharks and whales after being tricked for so long kinda know how to play the game. They use them to catch other fish and eat those fish so its like an infinite food source. There is a fish called the dragonfish which please don't look it up because it looks like something out of the 'Goosebumps' books. They emit a red light which a lot of fish cant process and they basically can see their prey but the prey can't see them (oo~ scary) also some shark are bioluminescence which hello they already have so many amazing traits why give them more.
And like that's it for this post (Gods, I am bad at these outros) and Byeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
